Summary
Nuclear physics is about the atom's core — protons and neutrons — and the huge energy locked in their bonds.
Unstable nuclei decay (alpha, beta, gamma). Fission splits heavy atoms for power; fusion joins light ones (stars, future reactors).
- Mass and energy convert: E = mc².
- Half-life = time for half a radioactive sample to decay.
- Reactors control fission; bombs and meltdowns happen when control fails.
